Summer Reading Adventures

Summer time is ideal for catching up on some of the "for fun" reading that I miss during the school year. I know that I get so caught up in the race of life August through May that I rarely take the time to enjoy a good book that isn't part of a book study or coursework.

Unfortunately, I find myself at the end of summer and realize that for the past 6 weeks I have dilly dallied through several books, but have hardly made a dent in the intended stack. I only have two weeks left before my school year contract starts and I am planning to make an all-out effort to finish my book list.

In thinking about my cavalier attitude toward reading lately, I am wondering how many of my students from last year are experiencing a similar fate. The troubling part is that I know that without daily reading, my "kids" will lose the ground they struggled so hard to gain. They work so hard during the year to catch up to their classmates and it can and will all come crashing down around them after a season of "taking it easy."

My challenge to myself and you is to get reading for the rest of summer. Grab a good book and hang out by the pool or on the couch in the air conditioning. Take a book along to read while driving to your last vacation destination, and don't forget to take one in the car while you are waiting for the last ball practices to finish up. If you need ideas, I have listed some of my favorites right here.

Happy Reading!!!!
